Reviews of "The Servant"

What They’re Saying

"Written in the first person with a zippy narrative, I found the book practically turned the pages for me. Well edited, the voice is fresh and compelling.  I can see why this book was chosen by the Historical Writers' Association.  A well deserved win!

A compelling tale of the life of an 18th-century servant. Part thriller, part romance, it is narrated in raw, realistic detail, with beautiful touches of poetry.

I tend to be very critical of historical fiction, but this is brilliant. A vivid atmospheric story which focuses on the exploitation of women and children in 18th century London, yet is also a most compelling thriller. Couldn't  put it down.
